Alliance for Precision Health

Siemens Healthineers and the University of Missouri System (UM System), including all four universities, and University of Missouri Health Care (MU Health Care), have established an alliance that is transforming the way health care is delivered in Missouri and beyond and preparing the clinical and engineering workforce of the future. 

Announced in 2019, Siemens Healthineers and the University of Missouri have embarked on a 10-year, $113 million alliance, cementing the largest long-term partnership in Siemens’ history. This momentous agreement is ensuring our NextGen researchers and health care partners have unparalleled access to leading-edge diagnostic and therapeutic equipment for years to come. 

The impacts of the alliance are being felt across the state and nation. Siemens Healthineers' expertise optimizes operations within MU Health Care’s hospitals and clinics through digital health tools that give clinicians access to timely, meaningful, actionable data, while also providing patients from underserved rural areas access to the best health care in the state. 

The historic partnership is advancing education and continuing workforce development in the state, through co-developed curricula in cybersecurity, data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence related to health care.

NAVIFY® Tumor Board

At MU Health Care’s Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, teams of specialists regularly meet to discuss new or challenging cases at meetings known as tumor boards. Such boards, however, require time-intensive organization of patient information, including radiology and microscope slide images, pathology reports, electronic medical records and more.

Now, the MU School of Medicine is collaborating with leading pharmaceutical and diagnostics company Roche, to streamline and standardize the process so that more patients can benefit from personalized health care from cancer specialists.

MU is the first U.S.-based institution to pilot NAVIFY® Tumor Board, a software solution that creates a centralized repository of tumor board data. At Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, NAVIFY® is used for hematology-pathology, ENT, multidisciplinary care, breast cancer and melanoma tumor boards. Plans are underway to use NAVIFY® at all tumor boards across the cancer center. Early results suggest that the tool creates more time for in-depth discussions on patient care.

NextGen and Thermo Fisher are Collaborative Partners in Advanced Electron Microscopy

In March 2021, the University of Missouri and Thermo Fisher Scientific signed a collaborative agreement to house in the NextGen building advanced electron microscopes and related equipment that are used to magnify and analyze images at the molecular level. These instruments are all part of MU’s Electron Microscopy Core. This partnership is centered on providing some of the necessary tools needed for greater teamwork among researchers, clinicians and industry leaders when developing innovations for precision health care.
