About the Speaker
Dr. Zafonte received an honorary Master of Arts from Harvard University. He also achieved a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Nova/Southeastern University of Health Sciences, and Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia. Zafonte has published extensively on traumatic brain injuries (TBI), TBI/concussion, and other neurological disorders. His research has been federally funded (National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, Center for Disease Control, and the Department of Defense) for more than 20 years. Zafonte’s textbook Brain Injury Medicine is considered one of the standards in the field of brain injury care, and he has extensive administrative experience as the principal investigator of large, national multisite clinical trials and center grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.
About the Discovery Series
The NextGen Precision Health Discovery Series provides learning opportunities for UM System faculty and staff across disciplines, the statewide community and our other partners to learn about the scope of precision health research and identify potential collaborative opportunities. The series consists of monthly lectures geared toward a broad multidisciplinary audience so all can participate and appreciate the spectrum of precision health efforts.
