About the Speaker
Dr. Jared M. Huston is an assistant professor at The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. He is also an associate professor of surgery and science education at the Zucker School of Medicine and an attending in the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at Northwell Health. Dr. Huston serves as the director of Trauma Research for the Department of Surgery.
Prior to joining Northwell Health, Dr. Huston served as an assistant professor of Surgery in the Division of General Surgery, Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Burns at Stony Brook Medicine. He was also the director of the Laboratory of Surgical Immunology within the Department of Surgery.
The focus of Dr. Huston’s research group is to understand how the central nervous system maintains homeostasis and protects against traumatic injury. Trauma is a leading cause of death and disability around the world. Two of the most dangerous complications following traumatic injury include bleeding and infection. In the United States, the most common preventable cause of death following civilian traumatic injury is uncontrolled hemorrhage. Therapies to improve hemostasis following injury remain limited.
About the Discovery Series
The NextGen Precision Health Discovery Series provides learning opportunities for UM System faculty and staff across disciplines, the statewide community and our other partners to learn about the scope of precision health research and identify potential collaborative opportunities. The series consists of monthly lectures geared toward a broad multidisciplinary audience so all can participate and appreciate the spectrum of precision health efforts.
