“Advanced Translational Neuroimaging: Toward Precision Health”

Description

Over the past decade, rapid advances in imaging technology have enabled faster, better and more powerful evaluation of anatomy, physiology and disease. Radiology examinations provide a spectrum of longitudinal noninvasive biomarkers to quantify tissue properties at the macro-, meso- and microscopic levels and correlate with patient outcomes.

This talk will provide a broad overview of advanced neuroimaging techniques, including high-resolution, diffusion, perfusion, functional, vascular, elastography, zero-echo, spectroscopy and 7 Tesla MRI. The cases presented will demonstrate the translational imaging pipeline in action, bridging the gap from basic physical principles to practical clinical applications. 

Informed utilization of advanced neuroimaging tools promises to elevate precision diagnosis and treatment across the spectrum of neurological disorders. The interdisciplinary neuroscience community at MU will benefit from these novel approaches and collaborations.

Speaker BioMai-Lan Ho

Dr. Ho is an internationally recognized physician leader, scientist and educator who specializes in translational advanced imaging and precision health. Dr. Ho completed her undergraduate degree in chemical engineering at Stanford University, graduate training at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. She then pursued a diagnostic radiology residency in the Scholar’s Track at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, with mini-fellowships in body MRI and musculoskeletal radiology. Following pediatric and head/neck imaging experience at Boston Children’s Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Dr. Ho completed her neuroradiology training and a chief fellowship in pediatric neuroradiology at the University of California, San Francisco. 

Dr. Ho holds several editorial positions, including associate editor for the British Journal of RadiologyJournal of Neuroradiology and Radiology–Open; and guest editor for MRI Clinics of North AmericaAJNR News DigestBioengineering and Children. Her books include Neuroradiology SignsThe AAWR Pocket Mentorand Pediatric Neuroimaging: State-of-the-Art. She has received awards for leadership, research and education from the Radiological Society of North America, American Society of Neuroradiology, Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research, Society for Pediatric Radiology, American Society of Head and Neck Radiology, American Association for Women in Radiology, Eastern Neuroradiological Society and Western Neuroradiological Society.
