Richard J. Barohn, M.D. joined the University of Missouri as executive vice chancellor for health affairs in May 2020. As EVC, he oversees development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy that affirms MU as a nationally recognized leader in patient care, education, and research. Dr. Barohn leads the University of Missouri Health Care system, a mid-size, comprehensive health care network where he encourages the use of artificial intelligence, telehealth technologies and other cutting-edge opportunities to improve health care delivery. He is the executive director for the University of Missouri’s largest initiative called NextGen Precision Health.

Barohn is a professor in the Department of Neurology. His practice focuses on caring for patients with neurological and neuromuscular diseases such as myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy and ALS. He holds a medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and completed his residency at the Wilford Hall U.S. Air Force Medical Center and a fellowship in neuromuscular diseases at The Ohio State University. He has completed over 100 clinical trials, published more than 350 peer reviewed articles, and he continues to lead basic, patient-centered clinical and population health research.
