About the Speaker

Dr. Khan is a reproductive biologist with more than 15 years of teaching and research experience. He has extensive practical research work experience in the fields of reproductive genetics, spermatogenesis, stem cell biology, placental biology, Trophoblast transcriptomics, molecular biology, and single-nucleus RNA sequencing. Presently, he is working as a Research Scientist in the lab of Dr. Michael Roberts, a Curators' Distinguished Professor of Animal Sciences at the University of Missouri, since January 2020. Here, his research is focused on the development and transcriptome analysis of human trophoblast using single-nucleus RNA sequencing technology.

He earned his PhD from the University of Science and Technology of China (among the world's top 100 universities) under the CAS-TWAS President's Fellowships Program, where he worked with Professor Shi Qinghua, a well-known reproductive biologist. His PhD research was focused on male reproductive genetics. He's published research and review articles in internationally well-reputed impact factor journals. His research work has been cited by peers all around the world. Importantly, he has developed the protocol for nuclei isolation from trophoblast cells and uncovered the presence of two distinct kinds of syncytiotrophoblast. He has also developed a protocol for Florescent Activated Nucleus Sorting (FANS).

About the IRHG Seminar Series

The goal of the Interdisciplinary Reproduction & Health Group (IRHG) Seminar Series is to highlight transdisciplinary precision research taking place in the reproductive health field, provide opportunities for collaboration among researchers to build their own research efforts and promote clinical/researcher activity across the University of Missouri System and our partners.

The IRHG was organized and established through a faculty-driven, grass roots effort in 2016 to develop an integrative interdisciplinary program that transcends traditional departmental, college and system boundaries to foster excellence in reproduction, health research and education at Mizzou.
