The goal of the NextGen Precision Health & Ellis Fischel Cancer Center Science Seminar is to highlight transdisciplinary precision research taking place in the cancer field, provide opportunities for collaboration among researchers to build their own research efforts and promote clinical/researcher activity across the University of Missouri System and our partners.

A-FABP: A New Link Between Obesity and Breast Cancer Development
Speaker: Bing Li, PhD, Professor of Pathology, Endowed Professor in Cancer Immunology, University of Iowa
Date: Sept. 21, 2023, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Location: Roy Blunt NextGen Precision Health Building, Atkins Family Seminar Room
Description
Obesity increases the risk of many types of cancer, including breast cancer. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying obesity/cancer link remain largely unknown. In this presentation, Dr. Li will introduce adipose fatty acid binding protein (aka A-FABP, or FABP4) as a novel molecular mechanism linking obesity-associated breast cancer development.
About the Speaker
Dr. Li has his PhD in immunology from Peking University Health Science Center, Beijing, China and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky. He has served as an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota and an associate professor at the University of Louisville. His current projects at the University of Iowa include high fat diet-induced obesity and immunoregulation, adipose FABP (A-FABP) in linking obesity-associated breast cancer risk, targeting A-FABP for treatment of obesity-associated diseases and epidermal FABP (E-FABP) in the pathogenesis of psoriasis and other inflammatory skin diseases.
