Description
Many technological sectors underwent recent exponential growth because of digital disruption, a phenomenon characterized as the ‘Six Ds of Exponentials’: digitization, deception, disruption, demonetization, dematerialization, and democratization. In contrast, drug discovery has been marked by rising costs and modest growth, if any, of annual drug approvals.
About the Speaker
Dr. Artem Cherkasov is Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Precision Cancer Drug Design. He is a professor in the Department of Urologic Sciences at the University of British Columbia and senior scientist at the Vancouver Prostate Centre. His research interests include computer-aided drug discovery (CADD), structure-activity modeling, drug reprofiling, new cancer therapeutics discovery and development of novel CADD tools and applications.
About the Series
The goal of the NextGen Precision Health & Ellis Fischel Cancer Center Science Seminar is to highlight transdisciplinary precision research taking place in the cancer field, provide opportunities for collaboration among researchers to build their own research efforts and promote clinical/researcher activity across the University of Missouri System and our partners.
